Katie Holmes became a mother to Suri Cruise when she was 27 and she loves their age gap. It’s probably why they’re so close.

In the latest issue of Elle (Katie is their December cover star), Katie said, “I was happy to become a mum in my twenties. It’s been nice that our ages fit… how do I put this? Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match,” Katie said.
“We kind of grew up together,” she added.
While Katie never speaks about her love life, she doesn’t mind discussing the strong bond she has with her 13-year-old daughter.
Katie says Suri is “the most important person” to her. “It’s very important that I’m present and she has a stable, innocent childhood,” Katie told Town & Country in 2017. “I feel so blessed to do what I do, but there’s nothing in the world better than watching your child succeed.”
As much as she loves watching Suri grow up, she’s not looking forward to the day when she’ll leave home. “Every day, kids get a little further away from you,” she said to Town & Country. “That’s a positive thing. They should be becoming more independent, but it’s heartbreaking. You want them to stay with you forever, but they’re these amazing beings, and you have to do everything you can to give them what they need—and then they’re going to go. And that’s going to be very, very sad for me.”
In her Elle interview, Katie also spoke about what it’s like turning 40. “It’s interesting to be 40, though, because when you’re young, you think, ‘I’m never going to be 40!’ And then the day comes and it’s like, this is OK. I’m still doing everything I’ve always done. I feel happy with where my career is and I’m excited for the projects that I have coming up to come to fruition.”
