After what seems like forever – and with seven seasons down, it actually kinda was – last night two of Game of Thrones key characters finally met.
Jon Snow, the King of the North, and Daenerys Targaryen, the Queen of Dragons, were in the same room for the first time in the show’s history.
However, their meeting didn’t go as well as expected. Jon refused to ‘bend the knee’ and the pair couldn’t agree on anything at all. Classic.
Fans have speculated for years that Jon and Daenerys end up together, so what does their rather awkward first meeting mean?
According to Kit Harington, we shouldn’t give up hope just yet: The actor pretty much confirmed that Jon Snow very much noticed Daenerys beauty and that he had the same reaction as any young man would.
“I predicted, like everyone, [Jon and Daenerys] would meet this season, but I don’t think I predicted it quite as quickly,” Harington said to Entertainment Weekly.
“But then again, you’ve got to take yourself out of the mind-set of the viewer. As far as Jon knows, he’s just meeting this queen he’s heard of and trying to negotiate with her – he’s not meeting Daenerys, who the audience has been watching for so many years. That helps with the surprise of it.”
He walks into the room and doesn’t expect to see such a beautiful young woman of similar age to him. Any young man’s reaction is going to be, ‘OK…’ but he puts that aside, because he has to.”
While we’re already thinking about what their children would look like, Clarke told EW that Daenerys “doesn’t like” or “believe” Jon after meeting him, so the attraction might be one-sided.
Also, Daenerys is Jon’s aunt. But hey, a bit of incest has never stopped GoT characters before.
