Princess Charlotte Gripped Princess Kate’s Hand As She Attended Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral

The seven-year-old royal walked in the official procession.

Princess Charlotte is taking notes from her regal mother, Princess Catherine. The seven-year-old royal was one of the youngest attendees at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, where she was pictured arriving alongside her mother and nine-year-old brother, Prince George.

As she walked into Westminster Abbey, Charlotte was seen gripping her mum’s hand tightly. She looked sombre and respectful in an all-black outfit consisting a coat dress and a wide-brimmed hat. She wore black stockings and flat Mary-Jane shoes.

For those with a keen eye, you’ll also notice a tiny silver pin on Charlotte’s dress. Per The Mirror, the delicate pin features a horseshoe. It’s a beautiful nod to the Queen, who was known for her love of horse-riding. Charlotte herself is also a budding rider.

The young royal has grown up before our eyes, having been front and centre of major royal events including a stint as a bridesmaid at Meghan and Harry’s 2018 royal wedding. She has also made numerous balcony appearances at Trooping The Colour over the years, and we’ve glimpsed her several times attending the annual royal Christmas service at Sandringham.

Charlotte, who is third in line to the throne, has no doubt been taught the ins and outs of royal protocol by the best with her older brother Prince George and father Prince William, both heir apparents, subjected to private lessons about British constitutional history from a young age.

At this year’s Trooping the Colour, which coincided with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Charlotte was seen waving in perfect regal fashion to the audience. Her younger brother Louis, four, sat beside her. When his wave became a little manic, Charlotte quickly placed a stern hand on his.

Charlotte’s mother Kate, who became Princess of Wales in the wake of the Queen’s passing, also paid tribute to the Queen with her funeral outfit by wearing the stunning Japanese Pearl Choker Necklace. It features a three-tiered pearl chain with a large stone in the middle. The Princess also wore pearl earrings. The accessories were clearly picked out by Kate especially given that pearls are worn as a special tradition for royals during times of mourning.
