The Bear meets Uncut Gems meets Bloodline in a gritty new crime-thriller, Black Rabbit starring Jude Law (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Sherlock Holmes), Jason Bateman (Ozark, Air) and Amaka Okafor (Bodies, The Responder).
Set against the backdrop of the high-pressure New York restaurant scene, the hotly anticipated limited Netflix series dives into the chaotic lives of the two brothers (Law and Bateman).
Jake Friedkin (Law), a charismatic owner of Black Rabbit, a restaurant and VIP lounge, poised to become the hottest eatery in New York. But when his brother, Vince ( Bateman), returns to the business unexpectedly, trouble soon follows, opening the door to old traumas and new dangers that threaten to jeopardise everything.
While the series boasts a stacked cast, there is one actor who undoubtably steals the show: 43-year-old British actor Amaka Okafor, who plays Roxie, an ambitious New York chef.
Ahead of the series’ release, we sat down with Okafor, who shares seven surprising facts about herself with us.
What was your first job?
Collecting glasses at our local bar in Malvern, England. I’ll never forget it because it was the year of the very first Big Brother, and everyone packed into the bar to watch the finale.
What has been the most challenging scene you’ve ever filmed?
I’ve filmed was in a bog, deep in the woods, in the middle of winter, with no protective clothing under my costume. The bog water was soaking through to my underwear. It was awful and shouldn’t have happened.

What is a simple pleasure that brings you the most happiness?
Something ordinary that makes me happy is when my daughter gives me unsolicited affection.
What is a food combination you swear by?
Peanut butter on carrots.
What is your most irrational fear?
Snakes, but I feel like that’s fair, right? They’re the only thing my dad’s scared of, so I grew up thinking they must be dangerous. I vividly remember when a snake escaped from Birmingham Zoo; we weren’t allowed to leave the house until it was found. My dad even stuffed towels under the front door!
What is your hidden talent?
I can do an impressive number of cartwheels without stopping.
What is the one thing you always travel with?
Vaseline.
Black Rabbit, which also stars Jude Law and Jason Bateman, is streaming on Netflix from September 18.
