The romance genre may be undergoing a resurgence – think Wuthering Heights, Materialists, People We Meet On Vacation, Eternity and so on – but nothing can compare to the romcoms of the 90s and noughties. So, it’s no surprise Hollywood continues to return to the era, this time reviving beloved film, Suddenly 30 (internationally known as 13 Going on 30).

Whispers of a reboot first broke just days ago with Deadline reporting the project was in the works on March 24th. Shortly after, Netflix confirmed the news via Instagram: “Thirty, flirty, and thriving… Emily Bader and Logan Lerman will star in 13 GOING ON 30, a new reboot of the 2004 classic. Executive produced by Jennifer Garner and directed by Brett Haley (People We Meet on Vacation).”

Here’s what we know about the 13 Going On 30 Reboot…

What Is The 13 Going On 30 Reboot Plot?

Specific plot details are being kept firmly under wraps for now, but the original film followed Jenna Rink, a 13-year-old who, disenchanted with her age, wishes to fast-forward to 30 — and wakes up to find herself thrust 17 years into the future, where she’s thirty, flirty and thriving.

The new project is being described not as a remake but a reimagining, so expect a fresh take on the core concept rather than a scene-for-scene retread.

13 Going On 30 Reboot Cast

Netflix is rebooting 13 Going on 30 with Emily Bader and Logan Lerman in the lead roles, with Jennifer Garner on board as executive producer. Bader, who has quickly established herself as one of streaming’s most compelling rom-com leads, will step into the role originated by Garner, while Lerman takes on the Matty equivalent made famous by Mark Ruffalo.

Given Garner’s ties to the project, fans of the original may have their hopes of a cameo or role in the film realised.

The project will reunite Bader with director Brett Haley, who previously directed her in Netflix’s The People We Meet on Vacation. Haley will direct from a script by Hannah Marks with revisions by Flora Greeson, who also worked on The Princess Diaries 3.
