It’s official! Netflix has renewed America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders for Season 4, promising another intimate glimpse behind the polished façade of one of America’s most storied cheerleading institutions.
The renewal follows a successful third season, which became one of Netflix’s most-watched shows after premiering on June 16. More significantly, Season 3 marked a turning point for the series itself, as it began to reckon with the influence the documentary has had on the very institution it set out to chronicle.
“As these people have become famous by virtue of the film we’ve been making, we just have to account for that,” director Greg Whiteley said in the week of the season’s premiere. “It would be impossible to document Season 3 honestly without acknowledging that they’ve become more famous than they were before we arrived.”
The season also followed Australian sweetheart Faith Ward through a particularly turbulent path to becoming a DCC. Ward found herself under scrutiny from Director Kelli Finglass and Head Choreographer Judy Trammell after “unflattering” photographs from her past resurfaced online, before facing further criticism for conducting overseas press without the organisation’s permission.
Yet the controversies did little to derail her. Ward made the team, even as she continued to challenge some of the DCC’s long-standing conventions, including with the ponytail she wore during games, a hairstyle rarely seen among the squad.

The next chapter will once again pull back the curtain on life inside one of America’s most celebrated cheerleading squads, following hopefuls as they navigate gruelling auditions, training and the spectacle of another NFL season. Greg Whiteley will return at the helm, alongside Kelli Finglass and Judy Trammell.
“Every season we get a little further past the performance and closer to the person. What excites me is more than just who makes the team — it’s what these women are willing to explore and let viewers see along their journey,” says Whiteley. “That kind of trust takes years and I’m grateful we get another season to tell their stories.”
