It’s rare for a screenplay to garner as much attention as Love of Your Life did when it was first shopped around in October 2024. Rarer still, is a blind script for a film causing such a stir, that it resulted in – per Deadline – one of the “biggest spec script deals in recent memory.” Is it any wonder then, that its leading roles immediately became some of the most coveted in Hollywood?
A-list names like Sydney Sweeney dominated discourse surrounding the rumoured cast initially, but as the Love of Your Life film entered pre-production, we were finally put out of our misery. Joining the cast of the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film are two of the most talked-about actors of 2025, Patrick Schwarzenegger and Margaret Qualley.
After taking on smaller roles in Gen V and Amazon series, The Terminal List, Schwarzenegger got his big break as Todd Peterson in critically acclaimed show The Staircase. But it was his breakout performance as the emotionally complex Saxon Ratliff in The White Lotus season 3, that thrust the young actor into the international spotlight, undoubtedly securing his place on the Love of Your Life film runsheet as one to watch.
Margaret Qualley will take on the lead role alongside Schwarzenegger in the romantic drama after cementing her place as the industry’s darling for her performance in everyone’s favourite body-horror The Substance. The latest update comes just after it was announced that Qualley is set to star in Ridley Scott’s adaptation of best-selling novel, The Dog Stars, along with Australia’s own, Jacob Elordi.
What Is The Love Of Your Life Film About?
As pre-production is still in its early stages, the plot of the upcoming film is still being kept tightly under wraps.
However, we do know that the script, written by Julia Cox (Nyad) centres around the story of a young woman, played by Qualley, who, still reeling from the death of her husband, departs on a transformative journey in the hopes of finding meaning after grief. Schwarzenegger will reportedly feature as an old friend and ex-partner of Qualley’s character, who makes his way back into her life in an unexpected way.
With some serious Eat, Pray, Love undertones in that description alone, it’s already shaping up to be a must-watch for romance fans the world over.
According to sources, production will commence in August and will be filmed across multiple European locations.
Who Is Involved In The Film?
Aside from the two leading actors, Love of Your Life will bring together a crew of Hollywood heavyweights. The movie will be directed by Rachel Morrison, whose cinematography on Black Panther earned her critical acclaim, while production will be handled by Ryan Gosling and Jessie Henderson under the banner of their production company Open Invite Entertainment.
And if anyone knows how to create a successful romance drama, it’s the man responsible for bringing Noah to life in The Notebook. So it’s safe to say, the film is in good hands.
