The 1996 film, which starred Bette Midler, Diane Keaton and Goldie Hawn, is being adapted into a 10-episode series for Paramount Television.

The reboot will also take place in New York City and will follow โ€œa group of women who band together after their marriages fall apart, and who find strength in their sisterhood โ€” and of course a little revenge,โ€ the network explained.

Tracey Oliver โ€“ who penned the box office smash Girl Trip โ€“ will be at the helm of the new project, penning the script and executive producing while Grammy winner Jill Scott from Why Did I Get Married? and Broad City comedian Michelle Buteau have both signed on to star.

โ€œIโ€™m beyond thrilled to work with the inimitable Jill Scott and the always hilarious Michelle Buteau,โ€ Oliver told Deadline. โ€œBoth artists bring unique talents to this project and as a collective, between Jillโ€™s beautiful music and dynamic on-screen work and Michelleโ€™s incredible comedic timing, their joining First Wives Club makes for the start of a very special cast. I am very excited to see their characters come to life.โ€

The series starts filming In NYC later this year and is scheduled to premiere in 2019.
