“Makeup and the queer community have a long-standing relationship, one that began long before L’Oréal was established over 100 years ago, with cosmetics being used as both a tool of self-expression and for some, an armour,” said L’Oréal Australia in a press release.

To celebrate Mardi Gras, L’Oréal Australia presented a stunning float at the parade adorned with a hot pink gender-neutral face to highlight the importance of people being able to choose how they identify.

The float was created using sustainably sourced materials and environmentally-friendly elements including biodegradable heart-shaped confetti.

“The joy and freedom of being part of this iconic event highlighted how important an inclusive and supporting workplace environment is to employees. L’Oréal Australia’s LGBTIQ community is accepted without exception and we want our employees to be proud of who they are and how they identify,” said L’Oréal Australia.

“We know L’Oréal Australia and our 30 brands play a role in celebrating more gender-expansive faces and voices and to do this, we need a diverse and inclusive workforce that is representative of our consumers and the community.”

The theme for the 2020 Mardi Gras was “what matters” and the parade attracted a staggering 500,000 spectators to watch the parade which featured 12,500 participants, the involvement of 200 communities and corporations, and 100 floats.
