Boss Fired After Text Exchange With Distressed Mum Goes Viral

The employee had asked for time off to care for her son

A manager has been fired after the messages she sent an employee were made public.

Crystal Reynolds Fisher, from Michigan, USA, messaged her boss at the PS Food Mart saying she couldn’t come to work because her son had been rushed to hospital and put on life support.

But the response she received was shocking. Instead of sending condolences and confirming Crystal could take the day off, her manager replied and said she would be fired if she didn’t come in for her shift.

“That isn’t how we do things, so I’ll accept that you’re quitting,” her manager responded.

Crystal shared the exchange on Facebook, writing: “So my son is on life support and I tell my boss 48 hours before I am to work again that I will not be able to work until my son is off life support and this is what she tells me!”

The post quickly went viral and has been shared over 81k times.

The company has released a statement saying the matter was handled “improperly” and confirming the manager had been fired because of it.

“As a result of this finding, we took quick action and that manager is no longer employed by PS Food Mart,” the statement read.

“We have also reaffirmed to our employee that she will be able to take all the time off that she needs during this difficult period.”
