GRAACE, “LAST NIGHT”
This masterpiece from the enchanting Graace will make you feel all the feels. If these aren’t the most poetic lyrics ever written, I don’t know what are: “And I blinded you ‘cause I loved your eyes. And I took your voice ‘cause I love to lie. And I weighed you down so I learned to fly.” Damn.
EMPRESS OF, “WHEN I’M WITH HIM”
Coming at you from the trendy streets of Los Angeles, Empress Of (also known as Lorely Rodriguez) is fresh, funky and all of your other favourite f-words. This track is best watched on YouTube to see Empress Of dancing in the street and wearing a ballroom gown with sneakers (a la Lily Allen circa 2006).
AMY SHARK, “ALL LOVED UP”
We’ve only just stopped humming “Adore” to ourselves, and now Gold Coast legend Amy Shark has dropped another catchy-as-hell single. “All Loved Up” opens with the haunting lyrics: “I hate to take off and land so you hold my hand.” And ends with a punch to the guts: “I’m all loved up in a world I can’t explain.”
MONTAIGNE, “FOR YOUR LOVE”
Once again, Montaigne proves she is the coolest/quirkiest/most talented 23-year-old with her new single “For Your Love.” The mesmerising track is a cautionary tale about toxic relationships. “I was reflecting on my first – and so far only – boyfriend. It was a short relationship, but it was long enough,” says Montaigne of her inspiration.
ROBINSON,“NOTHING TO REGRET”
This track from New Zealand star Robinson makes us want to dance – and cry. Mostly, it makes us want to sing along to her catchy lyrics: “Baby, let’s get fucking crazy and lose track of time. Why we always got to fret about it? There’s nothing to regret about it.” Wise words for a Friday afternoon…
