If you still haven’t received your invite to the royal wedding (we assume ours got lost in the mail) and want to be close to the action, renting an Airbnb close to Windsor Castle might seem like an excellent idea. But, there’s a huge catch.
Residents who own homes overlooking the royal wedding route, or within walking distance from the castle, are renting out their homes over the weekend Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tie the knot for staggering prices.
As The Independent reports, a two-bedroom house that sleeps four and is “located perfectly for the royal wedding” will set you back £3,195 ($5830 AUD).
Other places billed as “luxury royal wedding accommodation” are being offered for more than £2,000 a night ($3648 AUD).
The prices for rentals in Slough, Maidenhead and Reading have also skyrocketed. In fact, Slough has seen an increase of 1438 percent in guest arrivals on Airbnb compared to last year, The Express reports.
After their wedding service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 19, the royal couple will head off to a luncheon hosted by the Queen at St George’s Hall.
In the evening, Harry and Meghan will visit Frogmore House, the iconic venue where they staged their official loved-up engagement photos.
May 19 couldn’t come soon enough!
