Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have touched down in South Africa for the first day of their 10-day royal tour. The couple arrived in Cape Town overnight with four-month-old Archie Harrison in tow, however, left him with a nanny for their first official event, a workshop in the Nyanga township which teaches children about their rights, self-awareness and safety.

On their arrival, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were greeted with dancing by locals and lots of hugs from children at the Nyanga Methodist Church. Meghan wore a black-and-white print maxi wrap dress by Myamiko, a fair trade brand from Malawi, with black Castañer wedges for the outing (a favourite of her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton), while Harry wore a white linen shirt with chinos.

Meghan and Harry, who held hands and affectionately touched each other throughout the afternoon, both gave speeches with Meghan ending hers with a personal note to those in attendance. “While I am here with my husband as a member of the royal family, I want you to know that for me I am here with you as a mother, as a wife, as a woman, as a woman of colour and as your sister,” she said.

“I am here with you and I am here for you and I thank you so much for showing my husband and I the spirit of Ubuntu and I look forward to our time over the next few days together.”
