Buckingham Palace Made A Rare Statement On Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s New TV Special

Well, this is highly unusual

Our obsession with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shows no signs of abating with no less than two new TV specials hitting our screens – less than one month since the arrival of baby Archie.

Lifetime’s Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal is the sequel to last year’s popular Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance. It’s definitely not a documentary and the script is super cringe-worthy however die-hard royal fans will surely love it.

Then there’s the controversial CBS special hosted by Oprah’s best friend Gayle King: Meghan and Harry, Plus One. In addition to this comes a rare comment from Buckingham Palace about the involvement of the royal couple in the documentary.

On Friday evening, Buckingham Palace released a statement with a very definitive statement: “The Duchess has not had any involvement in the CBS special, nor has she requested or given permission to friends to participate.”

King interviews the Duchess of Sussex’s inner circle – namely, make-up artist and rumoured godfather Daniel Martin and Janina Gavankar – who expressed their candid reactions to their friends first baby.

Gavankar addresses the significance of having a mixed-race royal baby in the royal family will be a huge deal to young people. “There are still a lot of us who didn’t even grow up with dolls that look like us, so to have the royal family bring a child of colour into the world … it’s pretty awesome.”

While Martin is seen in tears over the fact that his friend has to endure so much public criticism. “It didn’t hit us until we were in the car,” Martin said of the enormous crowds at the wedding. “As we got closer, the crowds got bigger, and we were just, like, shocked. The enormity of the number of people that wanted to witness this. That’s the moment when I was like, ‘OK, the world is watching this.'”
