Michelle Williams stars in the upcoming movie Manchester by the Sea, which is set to rake in the Oscar nominations. But instead of taking a man as a date to the premieres and screenings, she’s opted for someone else very close to her.
She has been appearing with her best friend, Busy Philipps, who she has been close with since they starred on Dawson’s Creek together in the early 2000s.
Michelle Williams has made her affection for best friend Busy Philipps known, telling PEOPLE magazine that their friendship is “proof that the love of your life does not have to be a man! That’s the love of my life right there.” She added, “I’m so in love with her.”

And it seems that the feeling is mutual, as Busy shared this throwback snap from 2001, mentioning “Can I just say – we aren’t at a costume party in 2001. That’s legit how we dressed for a regular night out.”
She also recently shared this cheeky bathroom selfie, captioned, “Michelle and I like this picture of ourselves in a porta potty better than any red carpet pics we saw. So here you go.”
Michelle Williams also added that she had doubted that Manchester by the Sea would even be made, and has been impressed by how well received it has been.
“It’s the most unlikely and unexpected of endings for something so small,” Williams told PEOPLE. “You don’t make a movie like this because of any sort of clear benefit to your career or your finances – You do it because you can’t avoid doing the thing that you love.”
She added, “As people, we should all be bound to the things that we love – other people, work, our families…and it’s nice when those things get an extra reward that reminds you, ‘Yeah, it’s OK to keep doing your thing.’”
