Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth announced the end of their marriage over the weekend and since then, both the singer and actor have released their own separate statements surrounding the split. While it was first reported that those close to the couple weren’t surprised about the news, it’s now come to light that Miley was the one that ended things – and why.
Entertainment Tonight is reporting that Miley wanted to take a break, during which she realised she wasn’t happy. “Miley was asking for a break and wanted to soul search and came to the realisation she was unhappy,” a source told the site, saying that “Miley’s parents have been supportive. They just want her to be happy.”
The source also added that Liam is “heartbroken” over Miley’s public PDA with Brody Jenner’s ex-wife, Kaitlynn Carter. “Liam loves Miley and is crushed by all of this,” the source said. “But right now Miley doesn’t want to answer to anyone. She still feels the need to explore herself, her sexuality and her music. Miley has been working in the studio and wants to blow off steam.”
Us Weekly was told by a different source that “Miley wanted to make her relationship with Liam work more than anything,” but that since the split, she “is really focused on work and being in a healthy place.”
When the pair initially announced their split, friends allegedly weren’t surprised. “This split isn’t shocking to people who are actually with them every day,” a source told PEOPLE. “After they reunited, everyone thought they were this ‘perfect’ couple, but they still had a lot of issues. They’re not on the same page when it comes to a lot of fundamental things that make a relationship work,” they added. “It’s not surprising at all.”
