“I Am Part Of The Problem.” Morgan Spurlock Admits To Sexual Misconduct

The Super Size Me made a series of confessions on Twitter

Documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock has taken to Twitter to admit to sexual harassment and infidelity, acknowledging he is “part of the problem”.

In the post, the Super Size Me director explains that he expected to be outed following the many sexual misconduct accusations in Hollywood in recent months.

“As I sit around watching hero after hero, man after man, fall at the realization of their past indiscretions, I don’t sit by and wonder “who will be next?” I wonder, “when will they come for me?”” he begins the post.

“You see, I’ve come to understand after months of these revelations, that I am not some innocent bystander, I am also a part of the problem.”

Spurlock recounts how he had been accused by a woman of rape while in college, although he allegedly believed it was consensual at the time.

“When I was in college, a girl who I hooked up with on a one night stand accused me of rape. Not outright. There were no charges or investigations, but she wrote about the instance in a short story writing class and called me by name. A female friend who was in the class told be about it afterwards,” he says.

“That’s why I’m part of the problem.”

The 47-year-old also admits to loudly calling his female assistant “hot pants” or “sex pants” in the office and only later realised he had “had completely demeaned and belittled her to a place of non-existence”.

Additionally, Spurlock confesses to multiple instances of infidelity and reveals he has struggled with alcohol since age 13.

As The New York Times reports, Spurlock stepped down from his production company the day after his post.

On Twitter, responses to Spurlock’s admissions ranged from anger to shock and confusion. Many asked if the filmmaker was merely trying to confess before he was outed by others, or if he is genuinely trying to come to terms with—and change—his behaviour.
