A mother and her three-year-old daughter were found dead in their Melbourne home after neighbours heard screaming and crying from the house.
The Herald Sun reports that the woman’s husband was devastated when he arrived home and discovered the bodies. One of the husband’s neighbours, Mohammed Assad, rushed to comfort him as he ran outside screaming.
Assad described the moment the husband discovered the bodies as ‘really distressing’.
“He was just screaming and crying, couldn’t really understand what he was saying.”
“I ran outside, I sent my two neighbours inside,” he said.
“I gave him (the husband) a seat and offered him some water.”
Victoria police have stated that they are not currently looking for anyone else regarding the deaths.
Mr Assad mentioned that he had seen the mother and daughter on the street, saying that the little girl, who was in pre-school, was a ‘happy and active child’.
“You just wouldn’t expect something like this from that household, they were a friendly family,” he said.
“They used to offer us their lemons and offer my little brother sweets and biscuits.”
Another one of the neighbours, Laurie Mayne, said that he had last seen the woman walking down the street with the girl about three weeks ago.
Detectives are currently preparing a report about the deaths for a coroner.
