After an excruciatingly long debate, Australia finally did the right thing on Thursday, December 7, and made same-sex marriage legal.
Following on from the ‘Yes’ vote in the postal survey, MPs in the House of Representatives passed the bill with an overwhelming majority, making us the 26th country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage.
From raucous cheers to tears of joy, millions of Australians celebrated the historic victory. And many of those shared their excitement on social media (we bet your Facebook feed is a sea of rainbows and prayer hand emojis right now).
