The Beckham family feud rumours refuse to quit. Chatter of rifts have long followed the famous family, with no sign of being permanently squashed.
Initially, it was Victoria and Nicola Peltz. Now, it’s brothers Brooklyn and Romeo (perhaps, even their parents, too).
Is it just the incessant chatter of the gossip-fuelled internet that thrives off of pettiness? Or is there truth to the clues that celebrity watchers seem intent on pointing out? And, why is the internet so obsessed with it? We investigate.
Why Did Brooklyn Beckham Not Attend David’s 50th?
Brooklyn and Nicola’s absence from family events has been noticeable, to say the least.
The couple were nowhere to be seen as the Beckhams celebrated David’s 50th birthday over the first weekend of May, and it sent the feud rumour mill into overdrive.
Family photos of the birthday bash, showed the Beckhams (or part thereof) in matching attire, Victoria and Harper in navy blue silk gowns while David, Romeo and Cruz donned their finest suits.
Sharing the snaps to Instagram, Victoria wrote: “Creating special memories with family and friends. We love you all ❤️ @romeobeckham @cruzbeckham #HarperSeven xx”
And while there was no hint of malice in the sweet birthday post, it was immediately flooded with speculation over an absent Victoria and Brooklyn.
According to The Sun, the couple missed the birthday bash to attend the Met Gala, however the couple were noticeably absent from the star-studded affair.
“They cancelled plans to attend the Met because they really intended to be at David’s party on Saturday,” an insider told UK publication.
It’s not the first family affair the couple have skipped recently including other celebrations in Miami and London for David’s birthday. Then, there was Victoria’s 51st birthday, Brooklyn and Nicola instead attending Coachella.
Earlier in the year, the pair missed Victoria’s Fashion Week show and the family holiday to Muskoka, Canada.
What Has It Got To Do With Romeo Beckham’s New Girlfriend?
Some reports have suggested the rift has to do with younger brother Romeo’s new girlfriend, Kim Turbull.
In April of this year, sources revealed to TMZ that the brothers had clashed over the new love interest, as Brooklyn and Kim had dated previously.
Furthermore, an insider revealed to Page Six Brooklyn “doesn’t think Kim is in the relationship for the right reasons.”
Whether it’s true or not remains to be confirmed, Victoria and David certainly don’t seem to mind their son’s new partner.
Why Is Everyone So Obsessed With The Beckham Family Feuding?
Much of the Beckham family feud rumours stem from and suggest blame should be laid with Nicola, as though rifts began with her joining the family. Is it surprising? Not really. It’s just part of a patriarchal pattern of tearing down successful, beautiful women and pitting them against one another. In this case it’s Nicola and Victoria.
It pays to remember to newly married 20-something couple are living their own lives, too. While Brooklyn will always be tied to his parents’ name and skipping your dad’s milestone birthday is questionable behaviour, he is now an adult free to build out his own family and spend his time as he sees fit.
