People Are Furious That Buckingham Palace Is Investigating Meghan Markle And Not Prince Andrew

The investigation's timing is also quite something

Mere days ahead of a highly anticipated Oprah interview, Buckingham Palace has released a statement to say that they will be investigating claims that Meghan Markle was a “bully.” It’s a suspiciously timed move, though not surprising. The royal establishment and British tabloids have long trotted out similar stories when attempting to turn public favour against Meghan.

The palace told the Guardian that they are taking the allegations very seriously:

“Accordingly our HR team will look into the circumstances outlined in the article,” the spokesperson said. “Members of staff involved at the time, including those who have left the Household, will be invited to participate to see if lessons can be learned. The Royal Household has had a dignity at Work policy in place for a number of years and does not and will not tolerate bullying or harassment in the workplace.”

In the wake of this news, many on Twitter are furiously pointing out the perceived double standard of treatment of Meghan compared to Prince Andrew.

At last check, Meghan‘s only ‘crime’ has been marrying a man she loves and having a child together? The couple is expecting their second later this year. On the other hand, allegations of sexual abuse and paedophilia have dogged royal Prince Andrew for years.

In legal depositions surrounding the allegations that the late Jeffrey Epstein ran a decades-long sex-trafficking ring, Prince Andrew’s name came up repeatedly. Virginia Guiffre, one of the whistleblowers in the case, alleged that she was forced to have sex with the royal when she was just 17-years-old and that he was entirely aware she was a teenager. She also alleges in her memoir that Prince Andrew groped her and another woman with a puppet of himself.

Below, some of the reactions to the disparity between what Buckingham palace deems fit for an investigation.
