Nicole Kidman is addressing the end of her marriage to Keith Urban for the first time.
In a wide-ranging interview with Variety published on March 11, the Oscar-winning actor reflected on the months following her split from Urban, with whom she shared nearly two decades of marriage. The couple finalised their divorce earlier this year after Kidman filed in September 2025.
Asked how she has been doing since the separation, Kidman answered with the kind of calm pragmatism many newly single people aspire to project.
“I am [okay], because I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good,” she said. “What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That’s that.”
While she declined to go into detail about the breakup itself, Kidman emphasised that her focus remains firmly on the family she and Urban built together.
“Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect,” she said. “I’m staying in a place of, ‘We are a family,’ and that’s what we’ll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women.”
Kidman and Urban first met in 2005 and married the following year. Together they share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15.
Despite the end of their marriage, Nicole says she has no plans to leave the place where they raised them. Nashville has been her home since the couple purchased a property there in 2008, and she says the city remains deeply rooted in her life.
“We have our life here,” she explained. “I’m part of the city and community for 20 years. It’s my home.”
Over the years Kidman has spoken warmly about the Tennessee city, once joking that growing up there gave her daughters a subtle Southern drawl layered over their parents’ unmistakably Australian accents.
The past year has been quieter for the famously prolific actor, though she admitted that was partly intentional.
When Variety suggested that “every year is the year of Nicole Kidman,” she laughed off the idea.
“Well, not last year,” she said. “I was quiet. I had other things going on. I was in my shell.”
That period of retreat now, thankfully, appears to be ending.
“Now I’m in a place of saying, ‘2026. Here we go,’” Kidman said. “I have Practical Magic with Sandra Bullock. I’ll be in full witch mode.”
The long-awaited sequel to the 1998 cult favourite is one of several projects on her upcoming slate, alongside the Prime Video series Scarpetta.
