Rami Malek Reveals Kate Middleton Gave Him “A Look” After He Caught Her Off Guard At An Event

“I think she was taken aback.”

It makes sense that Rami Malek has become an honorary Englishman thanks to his award-winning role in 2019’s Bohemian Rhapsody, his upcoming role in No Time To Die and his relationship with long term partner, London-raised Lucy Boynton.

But in addition to acceptance from British society, Malek has naturally had multiple run-ins with the Royal family—one of which saw the Mr. Robot star unintentionally catch Kate Middleton “off guard”.

In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Malek recalled a moment when he spoke with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge while attending the 2019 BAFTAs.

“I had some familiarity with Princess Kate and Prince William,” he said. “We had a little chat. What’s fascinating is they work so hard to get to know everybody, whatever film they’ve done, their past films. You can see they’ve done their homework,” he explained.

“And I just looked at Princess Kate at one point and said, ‘This must be exhausting.’ She said, ‘Why?’ And I said, ‘You just had a baby, right?’ And I think she was taken aback. She’s like, ‘How are you doing?’ And I said, ‘How are you doing?’”

The baby in question? Their third child, Prince Louis, who was born in April, 2018. Continuing, he said: “In the most regal, elegant way, she gave me a look. But you could tell. Imagine: You’re dressed to the nines, have to talk to all these actors…. They’re so careful, but it was so cool, because I think I caught her off guard for a second. I [got] that look in the most elegant, professional, royal way, [she said], ‘Yes, it’s a lot having a kid.’”

And of course, Rami Malek lent a helping hand, recalling that he offered to babysit if Kate and Prince William ever needed a day to themselves.

“I’m backup for you,” he told Middleton. “She’s like, ‘What do you mean?’ I go, ‘I can babysit. You guys go out, have a good time.’”

While, yes, the Duke and Duchess are sure to have an entire team of nannies to care for and tend to their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis—when they cannot. But we’d be lying if we said we wouldn’t be desperate to see the Freddie Mercury doppelgänger babysitting the future rulers of the British monarchy.
