Your TLDR
Taylor swift new heights podcast

The moment Swifties have been waiting all week for has arrived: Taylor Swift’s New Heights podcast episode has dropped.

There was a lot to unpack, a whole two hours worth of conversation between the Kelce brothers and the ‘Cruel Summer’ singer, to be exact.

Taylor talked about reclaiming her masters, the Eras Tour, her love story with Travis and her new album, The Life Of A Showgirl. We unpack and recap the biggest moments, below.

On Her Love Story With Travis

It’s famously noted that a besotted Travis put his desires to date Taylor Swift out into the world with a public declaration on his podcast. That very fact kicked off the New Heights podcast with Taylor joking: “This podcast got me a boyfriend ever since Travis decided to use it as his personal dating app two years ago.”

“It was such a wild romantic gesture to just be like ‘I want to date you’.”

Travis recounted how enamoured he became with Taylor after going to the Eras Tour.

“I’d never been so engulfed in the curiosity of who you were,” he said of seeing the show.

They then hilariously recounted how Travis thought he could just call Taylor up or turn up at her dressing room, because he knew the arena staff.

He thought because he knew the elevator lady he could just talk to her and come down to my dressing room,” Taylor said.

Luckily, she thought it was endearing, albeit a little crazy.

“This dude didn’t get a meet and greet and he’s making it everyone’s problem, that’s what I thought at first.”

On Reclaiming Her Masters

One of the first topics Taylor spoke on was the emotional journey of reclaiming her masters, which she finally managed to do earlier this year. The singer revealed she had been told by others in the industry that re-recording her music wouldn’t bode well for her, and wouldn’t interest fans. She really proved them wrong.

“The first time it [masters] was sold it really ripped my heart out of my chest,” Taylor said on the years she spent trying to buy her music back.

Visibly emotional, Taylor was brought to tears recounting the moment her mum called her to tell her the news Shamrock Capital had agreed to sell her back her masters.

Jason also asked the tough questions: What is Taylor’s favourite re-recorded song?

“I liked them all but Red was very special. There was one [vault song] which was called ‘All Too Well’,” she said of her favourite pick.

” I made the glorious fortuitous mistake of saying that to my fans in an interview and they just hung on to it, like ‘where is the 10-minute version’. I went back and found the verses, and restructured it.”

On Hiding Easter Eggs Everywhere

No artist does an Easter egg like Taylor Swift, she basically invented the Easter egg at this point. And yes, she knows how out of control they’ve gotten.

“The Easter eggs thing is getting a little zodiac killer now,” she said.

In a delightful insight for fans, Taylor gave some “paramaters” to how she comes up with all these hidden clues.

“I love numerology, I love maths, I love dates,” she explained. “The art of the Easter egg is there’s dos and don’t. I’m never going to plant an Easter egg that ties back to my personal life; it’s always going to be toward music.”

That being said, she and Travis did touch on how their own numerology – her love of the number 13 and his jersery, number 87 – made a perfectly rounded 100, like they’re meant to be. So keep your eyes peeled for that, fans.

On The New Album, The Life Of A Showgirl

As part of the new album reveal for The Life Of A Showgirl, Taylor did confirm that switch up during the Eras Tour, whereby she entered through a mysterious new orange door, was an Easter egg.

Basically every night of the Eras tour, I would leave every night down an elevator, except for the last one where I exited through an orange door. That was an Easter egg. That was a hint that I may be leaving the Eras Tour era, but I may also be entering a new era.”

She also revealed and talked through the hotly anticipated tracklist for the album, which totals 12 songs. As she read through the list she made a point to highlight the grammatically choice to use dollar signs for ‘s’ on her upcoming song, ‘ Wi$h Li$t’.

She also revealed what the significance of the colour orange was for this album (kind of).

“It feels energetically how my life has felt. This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life on this tour,” she said.

“There’s no other songs coming, like with Tortured Poets which was a data dump…There is twelve [songs],” she added, “This is the record I’ve been wanting to make for a very long time.”

Taylor did note that the release date for the album (October 3rd or 10/3) does equate to 13.

While TTPD was “cathartic” for Taylor, she says of this new album “This completely matches the way my life has felt…It’s everything that was going on behind the curtain.”
