It may be time to worry, darlings. Olivia Wilde has reportedly called out her ex-partner Jason Sudeikis for how he served her official custody documents back in April, with a powerful statement via a court motion.
As a reminder, a rather strange incident took place back in April, when the 38-year-old was on stage at CinemaCon, promoting her upcoming film Don’t Worry Darling. While delivering her speech on-stage, in front of a full audience, a woman somehow made her way all the way up to the stage and handed Wilde documents in a manila envelope that said, “Personal and Confidential”.
Opening the envelope and taking a look at the papers inside, the actor and director barely missed a beat and carried on with her speech, while holding the papers in her hands. It was later reported that the documents she was given were custody papers from Sudeikis for their two children, Otis and Daisy.
Since the incident, neither have spoke about it publicly, apart from representatives claiming that Sudeikis “had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered, as this would solely be up to the process service company involved, and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner”.
Now, Wilde has apparently filed a court motion, where she expressed her belief that Sudeikis’ negative intentions were aimed at “threatening” her.
“Jason’s actions were clearly intended to threaten me and catch me off guard,” the motion read, as per The Daily Mail. “He could have served me discreetly, but instead he chose to serve me in the most aggressive manner possible.”
“The fact that Jason would embarrass me professionally and put our personal conflict on public display in this manner is extremely contrary to our children’s best interests.”
As per Sudeikis’ version of events, the papers were delivered to Wilde at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, because there weren’t any other locations that were more suitable.
In his own declaration to the court, the Ted Lasso star revealed that he wanted the papers served to his former partner at London’s Heathrow Airport, rather than at her boyfriend Harry Styles’ London home, since their children could be there.
“I did not want service to take place at the children’s school because parents might be present,” he added. But when the airport delivery fell through, the company tried to contact Wilde at her hotel in Vegas, which also didn’t work out. While they were there, the server “noticed Olivia at the Warner Brothers Panel and proceeded to serve the Summons and Petition upon Olivia.”
Basically, the server made a rash decision to complete the job, but it may not have been the best time and place after all.
“I understand that the process server had only done her job; however, I deeply regret what happened. Olivia’s talk was an important event for Olivia, both professionally and personally, and I am very, very sorry that the incident marred her special moment,” Sudeikis clarified.
As for why they are going through a custody battle, their kids were originally based in Brooklyn, but they now have ties to London with Sudeikis filming Ted Lasso there and Wilde often in the city as it’s where Styles lives.
According to The Daily Mail, the family look to have been together in London at some point last year, until Wilde took the kids to Los Angeles where she enrolled them in school. Now, Sudeikis would like them all to go back to New York for when he has finished shooting Ted Lasso, but Wilde apparently wants to move to London permanently.
As for where the children should be, all that matters is that they’re in loving homes—wherever in the world that may be.
