Since Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons announced their union in early 2020, the duo have constantly surprised fashion fanatics with their innovative design choices that make their way to the top of our ‘must have’ lists every season.
However as any industry insider would know, it’s not just their approach to fashion and styling that keeps us coming back for more, but rather their subversive attitude towards beauty.
Fittingly, for a brand who has just announced their first foray into beauty with an eponymous fragrance, Prada Paradox, Prada and Simons have made sure all eyes we’re not on their slick, 90’s inspired new season ensembles, but the avant-garde makeup looks.
For some, the beauty looks on the runway show are often unjustly the last elements of a collection to pique our interest.
No shade to the hardworking glam teams, it’s just with covetable high fashion pieces on the runway, our interest is captivated elsewhere.
But this season, Prada switched things up, by delivering a minimalist collection of soft, tactile tones, structural silhouettes and effortlessly elegant deconstructed two pieces.
So, naturally, when the collection’s palette was so clean we were bound to notice the slightly amiss beauty motif spotted on the models.
We’re, of course, referring to the unlikely use of false lashes on the runway. In the battle between doe and siren eye makeup, Prada has thrown their hat in the ring by making a case for eyelash extensions to be the look du jour.
Taking it one step further from the eyelash extension, lift and curl craze, (you know, the era where you couldn’t walk down the street without seeing six feet of eyelashes headed your way), Prada have literally attached what seems to be hair extensions to the models lash line.
This hair-raising look certainly isn’t for the faint of heart, or for those who struggle with visibility issues.
Honestly, we’re unsure how these models made their way down the runway in one piece with this veiled look.
Pioneered by beauty extraordinaire Pat McGrath, the eccentric beauty look (in case you’re in the market to copy this style yourself), entails attaching a wispy set of lashes that touch your cheekbone to the top of your eyelid.
Sure, Diet Prada may be comparing the look to Japanese horror films like Exte and The Grudge, but honestly we’re here for a subversive take on a mainstream beauty look.
After all, Halloween is just around the corner.
A thick line of eyeliner was also added to accent the heavy-glam look. As for the rest of the face, the model’s complexion was kept seemingly bare, with a feathered brow and splash of colour across the lips.
While we’re not sure if this beauty look will be spotted on the streets anytime soon, leave it to the likes of Prada and Simons to deliver us something fresh and fierce.
As for us, we’ll by trying our hand at this look to try on the collection, when it eventually drops in stores.
