Rachael Finch has revealed her decision to pass on an opportunity to cover the Rio Olympics over fears about the Zika virus.

The model and TV personality released a statement on social media explaining her decision.

“I would have absolutely loved to go to Rio to be a part of the Olympic coverage with the Channel 7 team, but have decided not to go,” she wrote in a post on Facebook.

“Misha and I are wanting to have more children and with the Zika virus an issue we don’t want to take the risk.”

The 27-year-old mother to two-year-old daughter Violet was scheduled to attend the games this August as part of the Channel 7 team.

Finch is not the first high-profile star to chose not to attend the games, with fellow Channel 7 personality Samantha Armytage also opting not to attend.

Females heading to Rio have been warned of the risks of the virus, and women who are pregnant, or planning to be, are urged to take extra precautions.

The World Health Organisation reports that there have been at least 1046 cases of Zika-linked birth defects in Brazil alone.

Earlier this year, the mother-of-one explained how important family is to her, and how she hopes to expand her brood with two more children.

“It was very much career and travel, which still exist, but the priorities have become Violet and family, because you have this little thing that’s dependent on you,” she told The Sunday Telegraph

“It’s like heaven in a body, just watching her grow. It changes your pace, your energy, everything.”
