MY RECENT TWO FAVOURITE GLAM LOOKS were the Met Ball and Vanity Fair Oscar party. The Met Ball is a particularly long evening and I always feel like my hair looks more polished when it goes up. I just like my hair to be done for the red carpet, so I managed to persuade my hairdresser Christian [Wood] to let me put it up. I’ve worked with Christian for about six years now and he’s also one of my best friends.
I STICK TO NON-COMEDOGENIC SKINCARE PRODUCTS. I’ve had really, really impressive results with clean skincare products. bareMinerals has some really beautiful skincare; their SkinLongevity range is gorgeous.
I ALSO HAVE REGULAR FACIALS. I have pounds of make-up put on my face on a daily basis, so extractions and regular facials are just part of [my routine]. I also double cleanse my face every morning and night with something gentle, [because] it really is incredible [how] after washing my face once, you still see make-up residue. Then on my off days [it’s] just really letting my skin be. Nothing goes on.
I’M A FACIAL JUNKIE but recently I’ve been seeing a woman called Biba in Los Angeles. I’m dying to see [Melbourne and Sydney facialist] Melanie Grant because she just opened her new space in Los Angeles. Melanie uses Biologique Recherche products, which are incredible. In London, I see a woman called Teresa Tarmey, who is really great.
BEAUTY STARTS FROM WITHIN. It starts with the relationship that you have with yourself and how you talk to yourself and how you treat other people. That’s a universal piece of beauty advice you’ll always hear, but it’s true.
MY MOTHER TOLD ME SOMETHING WHEN I WAS REALLY YOUNG. She told me beauty and make-up is about enhancing what you have and not hiding what you have. It’s always stuck with me and I’ve interpreted it over the years to mean, “Play on your assets and don’t worry about the things that you don’t love.” Everyone’s got the things that they’re going to pick at and concentrate on, but concentrate on the things you love. If you’ve got great eyes, play on those; if you’ve got great complexion, play on that. It starts with talking to yourself kindly.
