Ryan Reynolds captured the Internet’s hearts when this *clearly* set-up photo circulated of Taylor Swift cuddling with Tom Hiddleston and a bewildered looking Ryan Reynolds sitting with wife Blake Lively. And now we finally know the reason why his face looked so…unimpressed.

People thought that he was every boyfriend whose girlfriend tries to take a cutesy photo of them, and the Internet exploded with reactions.
But now Ryan Reynolds has spoken out about the photo in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. When asked what was going on in his head at the time, he said really he just didn’t know the photo was being taken.
“If I’m not aware a photo is being taken, my natural resting face is one of a man dying,” he said. “I had no idea somebody was taking a photo. Therefore I was resting comfortably in my persona of a man whose soul is visibly exiting this earth.”
