While many fans tuned into the premiere of this season’s The Bachelorette, it looks like the episode wasn’t as loved by Australia as we thought.
Delivering the worst-ever Bachelorette ratings for Network 10, the season began with a flop despite hopes it would be more successful.
According to Mumbrella, reports say that Elly and Becky‘s first episode of the season drew in an audience of 628,000 viewers which is the lowest number on record. And if you compare those numbers to last season starring Angie Kent, who drew in 716,000 viewers on its premiere night, there is a significant difference.
Prior to Elly and Becky’s premiere, the lowest rating season on record was Ali Oetjen‘s which brought in 631,000 viewers and it is still higher than this year’s premiere.
This year’s premiere of The Bachelorette was beat out by multiple other programs, ranging from The Block which scored 744,000 viewers and Highway Patrol which held 719,000 viewers.
And while Network Ten reported that the episode was live streamed 92% more than Angie Kent’s season, the television ratings were less than ideal.
According to the So Dramatic! podcast, there is set to be three walk-outs this season, with Ab Sow being the first to leave on premiere night.
And when it comes to the other fellas, rumour has it that there will be plenty of drama and “bust-ups” between them, in case you needed more convincing to watch the season.
The Bachelorette Australia airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on Network 10.
