Deadliest Wildfire In California History Claims 42 Lives

California is currently battling the deadliest and most destructive wildfires in state history. The Campfire in northern California has killed 42 people, authorities have said

The blaze has displaced more than 50, 000 people, incinerating entire communities as other fires continue to rage further south. In southern California, the Wolsey Fire claimed the lives of two people – bringing the death toll to 44. Statewide 150,000 people have been left without their homes.  

Nearly 9,000 first responders fight to contain the deadly blaze as search teams have been using power saws and cadaver dogs to try to locate the victims. Local authorities report that 228 people continue to be counted as ‘missing’.

Speaking at the White House on Tuesday, U.S. President Trump labelled the wildfires “devastating” and “the likes of which we’ve never seen before.”

“We mourn the lives of those lost, and we pray for the victims, and there are more victims than anybody would ever even think possible.” 

Days earlier, Trump said on Twitter that there was “no reason for these massive, deadly and costly forest fires in California except that forest management is so poor.” The causes for the costly fires are under investigation.
