You know it’s going to be a good day when you wake up to find the first trailer for the Elvis biopic has dropped. Yes, Baz Luhrmann’s highly-anticipated new project, starring Austin Butler finally has a full length, and let’s just say, being the King of rock ‘n’ roll looks good on him.
The film, simply titled Elvis, now has a release date, and will be gracing our screens on June 24, 2022. Luhrmann, who will be directing the project, took to Twitter to reveal the trailer, referencing Elvis’ personal motto, ‘Taking Care Of Business’: “Without further ado, it’s time to TCB⚡️ so here’s the trailer made with TLC.”
In the three-minute clip, Butler’s transformation into the King himself is revealed for the first time, and let’s just say it’s nothing short of impressive. We also get our first glimpse of Priscilla Presley (played by Olivia DeJong) and Elvis’ famed agent, Colonel Tom Parker (played by the formidable Tom Hanks). Watch the whole thing in full below.
Going by the trailer, it looks as though the biopic will focus on Elvis’ rise to fame, and the challenges that posed, as well as his budding relationship with Priscilla. We’ll also get plenty of unique insight into his dynamic with Colonel Tom, of whom Elvis shared a turbulent relationship with at times.
According to the official synopsis:
“It is a musical drama about the life and music of Elvis Presley, seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker. The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley.”
We also know that Tom Hanks will star alongside Butler as Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis’s complicated manager, so we can’t wait to watch that dynamic play out on-screen.
It’s said that during the course of his career, Presley reached a level of stardom matched only by that of The Beatles (so basically, he was a pretty huge deal).
Safe to say we can’t wait for this one to drop, and we’ll be standing by for more photos of Austin Butler to swoon over in the meantime.
