A letter to my fellow white people.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Posting and bringing awareness in situations of racial injustice have been a long-time priority for me. However, things just felt different this time and it took a minute to figure out how to change the approach. I couldn't just throw up a post of George Floyd and make a call and sign a petition and then 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼? While those things are helpful and it IS important to do that, it's not enough from us anymore. Those actions MUST become the norm, but today I want to to tell you how I'm am personally taking the next steps and urging you join me. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ *NOT ASKING MY BLACK FRIENDS TO EDUCATE ME OR TO SUPPORT ME IN BEING AN ANTI-RACIST. I used to do that. I used to call my friends frantically when something happened and ask what I can do to help. But after much education and through my own research, I realized I'm only adding work to their plate which is already too full just by living in their own skin. I realized I have an entire internet at MY fingertips and need to put the effort in ALL BY MYSELF.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ *ACTION. I've made my calls and signed multiple petitions, obviously. But again, that's not enough.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ *ORGANIZING. I'm compiling a list of black owned beauty businesses that I want to raise up and share on my platform. Not because anyone needs me to, but because I genuinely want to see more black women entrepreneurs being lifted up in the beauty space and more black women rising to the executive ranks and being compensated accordingly.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ *DONATING. Here are places I will be donating to today:⁣⁣⁣⁣ -BLACK GIRLS CODE, which teaches African American girls how to code 💕👩🏾‍💻⁣⁣⁣⁣ -SPELMAN COLLEGE, w historically black college for women 👩🏿‍🎓⁣⁣⁣⁣ -THE INNOCENCE PROJECT, which exonerates people who were wrongly convicted.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Join me. If you have questions, reach out and ask me. If you need resources on anti-racism education, ask me. We made this system and we are the ones who have to fix this system. 🤍📸: the one + only @sarashakeel

Sunday Riley

Sunday Riley herself shared a heartfelt message to the brand’s Instagram, pledging $50k to the NAACP and Legal Defense Fund.

“George Floyd and I are both from Houston. We actually both went to Lamar High School, though he graduated from Yates. We were separated by time. We weren’t the same age, we weren’t in the same year. But we walked the same hallways, maybe sat in the same classrooms, albeit at different moments in time. We had entirely different lives, different opportunities, and faced different challenges.  Had we both been in the exact same situation, at the exact same moment, I think it would have ended differently for me. Actually, I know it would have. That reality pierces me to my core,” she wrote.

That reality pierces me to my core.⠀ ⠀ Being from Houston, as a team, we want to support the black community locally and are looking for meaningful ways that we can support. Hopefully we'll have something firmed up in the next day or so. But in recognition that this level of discrimination, hatred, and brutality is rampant across the entire United States, yesterday we made a $50,000 donation commitment to the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund. We are limited in our resources, but not in our voice.⠀ ⠀ Wishing everyone a peaceful Sunday, but not a forgetful one. 🤎⠀ - Sunday

Being Honest means talking about the things that hurt, the things that are the most difficult, even when it's uncomfortable. We're heartbroken to see what is happening and we are committed to a world that is safe for everyone, no matter who they are, no matter their race. We believe that we're all in this together and that we must lead with awareness, empathy and honesty to advocate for equality.⁣ ⁣ As a company, we always strive to foster and support a diverse and inclusive environment. We are taking action by donating $100,000 to organizations fighting racial injustice, including the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Equal Justice Initiative. Additionally, Honest has committed to matching all employee donations made towards civil rights organizations.⁣ ⁣ Our hearts go out to all those affected by the events of this week. We cannot change the past, but we can be the change we want to see for our future.⁣ ⁣ *Update* We believe in encouraging honest conversations. We have noticed a minor grammar error in our post but have chosen to keep the image online to support and respect the open dialogue occurring on the post.

In the fight against racial injustice and systematic inequality, it is not enough to bear witness. To everyone taking a stand, we stand with you, we are here with you, we act with you. ⠀ -⠀ Our mission of healing and helping others involves working toward a world in which all people are treated justly and equally. As a small act of mobilization, we are donating across the following organizations fighting discrimination and injustice: NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Black Lives Matter, Innocence Project. We ask our community to join us in supporting these organizations and invite you to share with us other resources for change. - RESOURCES: - DONATE: (tagged) NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Black Lives Matter, Equal Justice Initiative, Innocence Project, Black Visions Collective, Minnesota Freedom Fund - READ: AntiRacist Reading List -- https://chipublib.bibliocommons.com/list/share/204842963/1357692923 - #SayTheirNames #GeorgeFloyd #BreonnaTaylor #AhmaudArbery #BlackLivesMatter⠀ - Art: @nikkolas_smith
