Regencycore Hair Is Our Next ‘Bridgerton’ Obsession
We're eyeing off Eloise's modern take on the mullet
Between the ornate costumes, fresh-faced, flushed makeup and the show’s sneaky parallels to modern day, Bridgerton has us utterly infatuated with the Regency era. Now that our wardrobes are filled with flowing, empire silhouette dresses and our cheeks are adorned in ‘rouge’, we’re looking to the show to reinvent our hair.
Whether you’re feeling playful with intricate braiding like Philipa Featherington’s, or are tempted by Daphne’s Gigi Hadid-approved baby bangs or Eloise’s high-class mullet, Bridgerton is bound to find its way onto your moodboard.
Before you take matters into your own hands, the mane man behind some of the show’s most unexpected hair looks, Marc Pilcher, talks marie claire through his favourite creations and on-set hair kit.
“Eloise was a feminist and a tomboy, who hates the constrictions of dresses and corsets. I gave Eloise a mullet hairstyle, which was a Regency era style, and suited her personality. I topped if off with Grecian-style ribbons to keep her looking young, and because her mother probably would have made her wear them!” shares Marc.
Cressida’s Towering Braids
“The character of Cressida was based on Nellie Olson from Little House on the Prairie – all sugary sweet on the outside, but catty and mean on the inside.
It was so important to tell a story through the hair and makeup at the Prince’s Ball, so I sculpted her wired braids into the shape of a crown. The purpose for this was to show how hard Cressida was trying to convince the Prince that she should be his Princess,” describes Pilcher.
“My favourite look of all was Queen Charlotte’s wig for the Hastings Ball. The mix of locks with hair bows, bird cages and birds was a show-stopper! When dressing this out, we usedHASK Argan Oil from Morocco Repairing Hair Oil, which helped to keep the hair smooth and frizz-free. This product is a must have.”
“I used a HASK 5-in-1 Leave-in-Spray on every look in Bridgerton. The Biotin Boost 5-in-1 Leave-in-Spray works miracles with finer hair, strengthening and thickening the follicle, while the Argan Oil 5-in-1 Leave-in-Spray was my go-to for dyed hair, to keep it soft and manageable."
