And so when the show’s hair and makeup designer, Marc Pilcher revealed his inspirations and—most importantly—the actual products that were used to create Daphne Bridgerton’s glowing complexion, we were definitely all ears.
When discussing how he came up with Daphne’s unique look, including her signature cropped fringe, Pilcher shared to Glamour that he was inspired by images of Audrey Hepburn in the 1950s film War and Peace, set in the early 1800s, as well as by authentic portraits from the Regency era in which Bridgerton is set.
The leading lady (played by Irish actress Phoebe Dynevor) rarely deviated from her natural, flushed beauty look, with barely-there makeup and rosy-hued lips becoming her signature.
Here, every product the show’s makeup artist uses to achieve Daphne’s flawless complexion and where you can get your hands on them.
“The good thing is many of the actors had their own skincare routines going on as we made them understand the importance of skin care,” explained Pilcher to Glamour.
“Phoebe, for example, was incredible at looking after her skin and I sent her home with Beauty Pro Brightening Sheet Mask to use. She also used daily Beauty Pro Eye Therapy Under Eye Masks to travel into work and they would stay on until I was ready to apply her makeup.”
“When it came to creating the ladies’ bases, in particular Daphne’s complexion, we prepped with Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Face Primer and used Chanel’s Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation or Laura Mercier base [Flawless Lumiere Radiance Perfecting Foundation] to create an amazing fresh and dewy look. Then Strobe Cream by MAC was used to highlight her collar bones,” Pilcher added.
“And on her cheeks, Stila Convertible Colour in Lillium worked wonders to give Daphne that flushed look. The texture is so silky.”
Though characters such as Lady Danbury and Lady Featherington rocked more dramatic eyeliner looks, Daphne’s eyes were kept a subtle peachy-brown to fit with her youthful appearance.
Where the makeup deviated from traditional Regency-era beauty routines was the lips, which were dabbed with a touch of tint and lots of lip balm.
“For her lips, the kit included Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk, Dr PawPaw Soothing Balm for her mouth and Pixi Sheer Cheek Gel for a lip stain. All perfect products to create the true regal look,” he said.
