The New ‘Bridgerton’ Trailer Has A ‘Pride And Prejudice’ Moment—And It’s Perfect

Mr. Darcy or Viscount Anthony?

Bridgerton fans only have a couple of weeks to wait until the highly anticipated second season is unveiled, and going by the latest trailer, it’s going to be worth every bit of the hype.

In the new three-minute clip, a major storyline for Viscount Anthony (played by Jonathan Bailey) is teased out, further expanding on the hinted romance he strikes up with newcomer, Kate Sharma (played bySex Education’s Simone Ashley) and her sister Edwina (played by Charithra Chandran).

The clip begins with the reveal that Anthony is looking for a wife during a large soiree—but as the trailer reveals, both Kate and Edwina appear interested in the Viscount—and there’s plenty of drama to come from it.

Yes, that includes the Viscount being thrown into a lake, and reemerging drenched in water and looking a little embarrassed.

Does that mean we can assume season two could be as iconic as Pride and Prejudice? Or, dare we say it, perhaps even Bridget Jones’ Diary? If its script includes love interests being thrown into lakes, then we tend to think yes.

Last year, we got our first sneak peek of the budding romance between Anthony and the two sisters. Netflix shared a short clip revealing Anthony finding Kate outside of a party, where he tries to charm the corset off her. However, Sharma’s intelligence allows her to see his true intentions, and their bickering teases the audience with an enemies-turned-lovers plot line.

So who does he actually end up with?

Well, we don’t know for sure, but the show’s creator Chris Van Dusen revealed to E! that Anthony and Kate’s romance is apparently just as intense as Simon and Daphne’s relationship from season one—describing their connection as “magnetic”.

“You cannot take your eyes off of them when they’re together on screen. I can’t wait for audiences to see that, or really, to feel that. I’m really excited.”

Bridgerton is set for release on the streaming platform on March 25. In the meantime, you can rewatch Bridgerton season one on Netflix here.
