Harry Potter fans across the world are gathering to wish Daniel Radcliffe and his long-time girlfriend Erin Darke a hearty congratulations, because the pair have welcomed their first child, a little boy.
The couple, who announced their pregnancy news back in March 2023, stepped out in New York City with their new arrival.
Radcliffe, who had control of the pram, seemed to have already adjusted to his new parental responsibilities.
With no news of the name as yet, it appears the couple intend to keep the details of this joyous news largely to themselves, as they have their relationship thus far.
He has told ET News, “It’s great. It’s crazy and intense, but he’s wonderful and Erin is amazing — it’s a real privilege also to have this time with him.
“I was always going to take some time off, which not everyone is able to do, and so I’m able to kind of just be here with him a lot, which is lovely…so, we’re having a great time.”
Radcliffe met Darke, a fellow actor, back on the set of the 2013 film Kill Your Darlings. In the film, Radcliffe plays a young poet at Columbia University in New York City, while Darke played Gwendolyn, his romantic interest.
The couple have traditionally kept a low profile, with Radcliffe not on social media at all, and Erin’s Instagram page showing no posts.
However, Radcliffe has made a few sparse comments to the press about his relationship over the years.
In March 2022, he told People that he was “really happy” with Darke. “I’ve got a nice life. I’ve been with my girlfriend for a decade, pretty much,” he told the publication.
Kill Your Darlings has not been the only project the couple have worked on together, with Darke assisting on Radcliffe’s comedy series Miracle Workers in 2021.
“We definitely like [working together], but it’s not something we want to do all the time,” he said.
“We obviously met on film and so getting to do stuff on Miracle Workers with her last year was incredibly special and felt lovely. Hopefully we’ll get to do more in the future, but we also both write, so maybe we’d write something together at some point, and that would be cool.”
We will have to wait and see what the couple make together professionally, after they have finished their personal endeavour of becoming parents.
Naturally, we will have to wait and see if Radcliffe’s child becomes a Potterhead themselves, or if the idea of watching ‘dad’ portray one of the most iconic children’s characters of all time will be too much.
Regardless, it will surely be a magical experience to be read Harry Potter by the man himself.
