The Duchess of Sussex first met the talkshow host at a dog shelter in Los Angeles two years ago where Ellen persuaded the former actress to adopt her first dog, Bogart.
Recalling the moment in an interview with Best Health, the 38-year-old said: "Now, I don't now her, but Ellen goes 'Is that your dog?' And I said, 'No,' and she's like, 'You have to take that dog.'"
"And I said, 'Well, I'm deciding.' And she's like, 'Rescue the dog!'" she continued.
"It’s sort of like if Oprah tells you to do something. I'm sitting there holding him and she's like 'Have you thought of a name for him yet?' And I said, 'Well, I think I'd name him Bogart,' and she’s like 'You're taking the dog home.'"
The pair have stayed in touch ever since with Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi even taking a trip to London to visit Harry and Meghan shortly after the birth of Archie.
After the couple came under fire for their private jet usage, DeGeneres opened up about her friendship with the duo on Twitter.
"Portia and I met Prince Harry and Meghan in England to talk about their work on wildlife conservation," she wrote. "They were the most down-to-earth, compassionate people. Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you’re trying to do is make the world better."
But a royal source has reportedly told People, that rumours of a post-Buckingham Palace interview are "categorically untrue".
We guess we'll just have to wait and see.
