Angelina Jolie has ventured into the world of fashion, with the launch of her clothing collective, Atelier Jolie.
The actress announced the news on Instagram, writing:
“Atelier Jolie is a place for creative people to collaborate with a skilled and diverse family of expert tailors, pattern makers and artisans from around the world. It stems from my appreciation and deep respect for the many tailors and makers I’ve worked with over the years, a desire to make use of the high-quality vintage material and deadstock fabric already available, and also to be part of a movement to cultivate more self-expression.”
The actress delved more deeply into the project on it’s website, explaining the idea arose from a desire to democratise fashion and creativity.
“Everyone can create. Why then do we covet designer labels?” she wrote. “Why simply buy the design of another person, when you can create yourself?”
To achieve this aim, Atelier Jolie will act as a resource to connect and assist “expert tailors, pattern makers and artisans from around the world” to sustainably produce one-of-a-kind creations from vintage and deadstock materials.
It’s not clear exactly when the project will launch, but on Instagram, Jolie teased it would be in Fall (that’s between September and November for Australian’s).
Fans of the actress have also noticed that her wardrobe in recent months has hinted at the announcement of a project like Atelier Jolie.
For a recent visit to the White House, for example, she re-wore a vintage Chanel suit, while her daughters have begun making a habit of reviving her dresses for red carpet appearances.
So, while we wait to hear more about this exciting project, we’ll add ‘fashion girlie’ to Jolie’s impressive CV.
