Balenciaga has announced the appointment of Pierpaolo Piccioli as the new Creative Director of Balenciaga. The maison’s update comes just shy of two months after it was announced that Demna would be stepping down from his role to take over creative operations at Gucci.

In a statement released by the fashion house, Kering Deputy CEO, Francesca Bellettini, said: “I couldn’t be happier to welcome Pierpaolo to the Group. He is one of the most talented and celebrated designers of today. His mastery of Haute Couture, his creative voice and his passion for savoir-faire made him the ideal choice for the House.”

The Italian designer, whose tenure as the former creative lead of Valentino began in 2016, echoed the brand’s excitement. “Balenciaga is what it is today thanks to all the people who have paved the way. In all its phases, while constantly evolving and changing, it has never lost track of the House’s aesthetic values.”

“What I am receiving is a brand full of possibilities that is incredibly fascinating,” he added.

And lucky for us, the doors of its Bondi flagship are officially open: “We chose to launch our retail space alongside e-commerce because we believe the in-store experience is essential to who we are,” says founder, Oliver Little. “Being able to try on garments, feel the quality of the fabrics, and fully immerse yourself in the world of Zero Meaning is a fundamental part of the brand’s DNA.”
