After John Galliano’s shock departure from the label, questions were naturally circling as to who would take the creative reins after his decade-long tenure. Now, the fashion world has its answer in the 41-year-old Belgian designer, known for his work at the helm of Diesel as well as Y/Project, before he stepped down in September 2024.

“I have worked with Glenn for years. I have witnessed his talent and I know what he is capable of,” OTB chairman, Renzo Rosso said in a statement.

“After Martin, who gave life to the Maison and its unique artisanal line, and John who made it the most cutting-edge couture house in the world, I am proud to have a third couturier at its helm.”

“I feel extremely honoured to join the amazing Maison Margiela, a truly unique house that has been inspiring the world for decades,” Martens said in a statement released following the announcement.

Martens succeeds John Galliano, whose tenure at the label delivered a decades-worth of thrilling fashion moments and boundary-pushing runway collections. Including, of course, his last Artisanal collection for Spring 2024, which featured the iconic Gwendoline Christie look and porcelain doll-like makeup by Pat McGrath – which was widely lauded as one of designer John Galliano’s best.

Glenn Martens will begin his tenure at Maison Margiela while also remaining as creative director at Diesel, where he’s been since 2000, and which is also owned by Margiela’s parent company OTB Group.
