Saint Laurent Reissues The Madonna Photos Too Risqué For 1992

Sex sells. Just ask Madonna.

French fashion house Saint Laurent has joined forces with the Queen of Pop for a rerelease of Steve Miesel’s iconic 1992 photography book Sex, featuring photographs of Madonna in various stages of undress and risqué positions.

To mark the groundbreaking and highly controversial book’s 30th anniversary, Saint Laurent Rive Droite hosted an intimate Miami beach party last Thursday in a custom built space specifically designed for the event.

Anthony Vaccarello of Saint Laurent, Zoë Kravitz, Hailey Bieber, Raf Simons, Anja Rubik, Adowa Aboah, Alek Wek, Evan Mock, Madonna’s children Lourdes Leon and Rocco Ritchie, and of course, Madge herself were in attendance for the glamorous one-night bash.

Adorning the walls of the gallery, were a selection of large-scale photographs from the original book, selected by Madonna and Vaccarello.

Of the images on was one Miesel’s most famous shots – Madonna hitching a ride on a busy palm tree-lined street in Miami, completely nude except for high heels and a purse in hand.

After taking in the exhibition, guests were escorted via golf carts down the beach to a candlelit setting where cocktails and canapes were served amid a rolling video of behind-the-scenes looks at the photos.

Upon its initial release back in 1992, Madonna’s provocative book sold 150,000 copies in one day, and topped The New York Times‘ Best Seller list. It became a controversial sensation around the globe, due to its bold erotic content and liberated views of sexual self-expression.

It was released around the same time as the artists’ seminal record, Erotica, which to this day is considered a cultural reset.

A limited number of books will be signed by Madonna with proceeds benefiting her Raising Malawi charity via an auction in the upcoming months
