It wouldn’t be the Met Gala without a fittingly extravagant dress code.
And now we know what to expect from the 2024 iteration, with the theme for the fashion fundraiser event revealed to be ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.’
With a little over 6 months until celebrities and designers take to the Met steps to showcase their interpretations of this trope, we’ve compiled everything you need to know about what promises to be a fashionable spectacle to remember.

What Does The 2024 Met Gala Theme Mean?
You’d be forgiven for interpreting ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ as an ode to Disney’s sleepiest princess. But the theme is actually designed to showcase historical designs in new ways.
The accompanying exhibit at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is set to feature approximately 250 items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection, several of which have rarely been seen before.
According to Vogue, the exhibit will span over 400 years of fashion, with highlights including Christian Dior gowns from autumn/winter 1949 and a 17th-century Charles Frederick Worth ball gown.
Max Hollein, The Met’s Marina Kellen French Director and CEO, said: “This innovative show will push the boundaries of our imagination and invite us to experience many facets of a work, to learn more about its history, and, ultimately, to gain a deeper appreciation of its beauty.”
So, just as many of the attendees at this year’s event pulled from the Chanel archives in line with the theme, ‘Karl Llagerfeld’, we expect there will be even more historical gowns ascending the Met steps in 2024.

When Is The Met Gala 2024?
As always, the Met Gala will take place on the first Monday in May. In 2024, this falls on May 6.
Who Is Hosting The Met Gala 2024?
The chairs of the 2024 Met Gala are yet to be announced, but if previous years are anything to go by, we can expect some big-name celebs in the lineup. In 2023, Dua Lipa, Penelope Cruz, Roger Federer, Michaela Cole and, of course, Anna Wintour co-chaired the event, while in 2022, we saw Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Lin Manuel Miranda, and Regina King host.
Who Is Invited To The Met Gala 2024?
For an event of this kind, tickets are notoriously exclusive.
In short, to secure a ticket to the Met Gala, you’ll need to fork out a donation of US$50,000 (approx. AU$75,000) as well as be approved by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. We won’t know exactly who has made the cut until May 6 rolls around.
