'The Hunger Games' Method Dressing Is The Wildest We’ve Seen

2026 has proved fertile ground for method dressing, with a slew of films practically begging their stars to bring their fictional worlds to life through fashion.

One film we knew would inspire such sartorial immersion was The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. And already, Mckenna Grace, who plays District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner, has delivered a string of indelible looks that wholeheartedly embrace the Capitol’s outré sensibilities.

At yesterday’s London premiere, the film’s leading ladies flocked to the red carpet in all manner of frivolity. Elle Fanning, who plays a young Effie Trinket, stepped out in a petal-pink Robert Wun gown from the designer’s Fall 2026 couture collection.

Styled by Samantha McMillen, the look earnestly channelled Trinket, originally portrayed by Elizabeth Banks. The tea-length dress featured a lace-up corset and a voluminous tulle tutu skirt. Layered over the original bodice was a second, sculptural hard-shell design with a scalloped edge, and taking cues from Wun’s runway styling, Fanning completed the look with a pink pillbox hat, topped with a miniature ballerina balancing en pointe in passé.

Grace, meanwhile, wore an Almée Couture gown that brought the franchise’s iconic Quarter Quell arena to life in a dazzling mosaic of beadwork. Across the bodice, a swirling sky gives way to purple mountains, while a grassy expanse evokes where the Cornucopia resides. The gown culminates in a profusion of purple flowers, with trailing vines cascading all the way to the floor.

But Grace’s method dressing extends beyond the film’s iconography. At the Academy Museum Gala, the actress took a different approach in a custom red Mônot gown that echoed the red Calvin Klein Collection dress that Jennifer Lawrence, who played Katniss in 2012’s The Hunger Games, wore to the 2011 Academy Awards.

Method dressing wasn’t exclusive to the cast, either, with guests embracing the Capitol’s penchant for avant-garde maximalism
