Meisel, a fashion photographer best known for photographing Madonna’s Sex book, has certainly brought some edge to the luxury jeweller.
The vision was conceived by Swarovski Creative Director Giovanna Engelbert, and has been dubbed by the brand as a “journey into the infinite creative promise of Swarovski crystal”.
Adding to the A-list industry talent involved in the campaign, Swarovski employed the talents of make-up artist Dame Pat McGrath to bring the vision to life.
The campaign features five “personalities” of the festive season, inspired by the Swarovski collections. The campaign almost positions them as superheroes – with an ultra glam touch.
The roster includes ‘Blue Gema’ – donning blue and clear crystals; ‘Mesmera Stardust’ – who wears striking and bold crystal designs; ‘Matrix Supernova’ – who wears features the range of clear cut crystals with an edge; ‘Hyperbola Nebula’ – who wears the striking Swarovski green crystals, and finally, ‘Punk Luna’, who features a range of crescent moon shaped jewels.
The campaign, titled Celebrate Wonder, aims to capture empowerment, self-expression, experimentation, and a bold return to unrestrained glamour.
According to Swarovski, this is a new chapter in the evolving Crystal Metamorphosis story, whereby the characters are ignited by the magic of the festive season, transforming into shimmering jewellery pieces that exemplify Swarovski’s joyful extravagance, savoir-faire and mastery of light.
“Our holiday campaign is a celebration of the infinite possibility of self-expression and creativity in the way that only Swarovski can bring. My vision centred around the idea of women, all with distinct looks and personalities, transforming into the jewellery pieces they are wearing. Together with Steven Meisel and Pat McGrath, we have created magic in a series of images that capture the festive glamour and wonder of the holiday season,” Giovanna said of the campaign.
