When it comes to royal occasions, our eyes are always on Kate, The Princess Of Wales and her consistently flawless fashion.
Having already been spotted in some very carefully selected pre-coronation outfits, we all had high hopes for Kate’s coronation day fit.
And unsurprisingly, the princess did not disappoint.
The Princess of Wales arrived at Westminster Abbey with her husband Prince William, and their two children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. As one of his grandfather’s Pages of Honour, their eldest child, Prince George, arrived before the rest of his family, with King Charles III.
For the service, Kate wore a formal robe with the colours of the Union Jack, a full-length lace ivory dress, white heels and a silver floral headpiece.
As a nod to her 2011 wedding dress, Kate’s coronation gown is also an Alexander McQueen. The princess’s headpiece, which features a silver bullion, crystal and silver three-dimensional leaf embroidery, is a collaboration between the same designer and Jess Collett.
The lace gown features rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock motifs, which signify the four nations that make up the United Kingdom. This might have been a nod to Queen Elizabeth, whose own coronation gown also featured national flowers.
The silk satin robe’s colours (dark blue, red and blue) also provide a little more clarity around the three outfits, which featured the same colours as the cape, that Kate selected in the lead-up to the coronation. Keeping with the theme of her coronation robe and gown, Kate’s coronation outfit is a clear nod of support to her nation.
Jewellery wise, the princess opted for a pair of pearl and diamond earrings that belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, and the George VI Festoon Necklace, which was given to the late-Queen Elizabeth in 1950 by her father, King George VI.
Princess Charlotte followed her mother’s suit, with a white Alexander McQueen dress and silver floral headpiece of her own.
