Lara Worthington Reveals The Story Behind Her Elusive Wedding Dress

“I still have the dress and would never part with it.”

After navigating the tabloids for over two decades, Lara Worthington is conscious of keeping her private life close to her chest.

“My mum instilled in me that it’s important to maintain a little bit of mystery. I think it’s hard in this day and age to achieve,” says marie claire’s April cover star.

Staying true to her values, Lara and her husband, actor Sam Worthington decided to secretly tie the knot in 2014. An intimate affair, the ceremony was held in Melbourne where Sam’s family resides, with less than 10 guests. The couple wrote their own vows and Lara’s mum made food for the reception.

Following the celebrations, Lara posted a shot to her Instagram feed sporting a white lace Louis Vuitton gown, which sparked speculation that the elusive gown was her bridal dress.

On the set of her marie claire shoot, Lara confirmed publicly for the first time that the infamous image was in fact her wedding dress.

“I bought it in London a couple of days before we were about to get married,” she reveals. “It was lucky they had something to fit me because I was seven months pregnant with Rocket at the time. I don’t recommend being pregnant and getting married. I still have the dress and would never part with it.”

Having kept her wedding dress a secret for the last seven years, Lara was certainly successful in her plea for privacy.

Three kids and one move across the globe later, the Aussie couple are now happily settled in the Big Apple.

“I love the culture of living in New York with the boys,” Lara tells marie claire. “We don’t have a car, so they ride their scooters home from school, which is a nice change from the LA bubble. We often stop at museums or an art gallery on the way home from school, which I love because I didn’t get to experience that when I was growing up. The boys love the Museum of Natural History, although they’re also like, ‘We’ve been there five times now, can we not!’”
