Millennials rejoice! Our favourite 2000s film, Freaky Friday, is set to receive a sequel, and the original cast will make a return.

The Hollywood Reporter this week confirmed that OG Freaky Friday stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis would feature in the second film, which will be produced by Disney.

Jamie Lee and Lindsay shared their excitement over the sequel in a joint interview with the New York Times, with Jamie saying the film was inspired by fans’ questions about the original film.

“I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made’.”

“Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore,” Lindsay added.

The pair also reminisced about their on-set bond, which included Jamie Lee coaching a then 16-year-old Lindsay before her first on-screen kiss.

“She immediately took me under her wing. I was so nervous to do my first kiss on camera, so she talked to me in my trailer and made it funny so that I wouldn’t stress about it,” Lindsay recalled.

The original Freaky Friday first aired 20 years ago, in 2003. It was adapted from the 1972 movie, which had already inspired three films by the time the most famous iteration was produced.

Lindsey and Jamie Lee are expected to reprise their hilarious roles as mother and daughter, who wake up one Friday and find they have swapped bodies.

The sequel will be Lindsay’s second film since her return to acting. Her last project, Falling For Christmas, aired in late 2022.
