An Instagram post has surfaced from The Crown’s set inside Winchester Cathedral that shows a program and order of service for the funeral of The Earl Mountbatten of Burma.

“A quick trip to the Cathedral and a spot of time travel. Stumbled upon the set of The Crown Season 4. Tomorrow it will be transformed into St Paul’s for Diana’s wedding prep,” said the Instagram account of Julie Wharton.

Olivia Colman (who plays Queen Elizabeth in seasons 3 and 4) and Helena Bonham Carter (who plays her sister Princess Margaret) were also recently spotted at Winchester Cathedral dressed in black for the funeral.

If they are recreating Lord Mountbatten’s funeral true to how it happened in history, then we can expect to see Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco (aka Grace Kelly) make an appearance on the show, as they attended Lord Mountbatten’s funeral at Westminster Abbey in August 1979.

Before becoming a royal, Grace Kelly admired Lord Mountbatten. According to his daughter Pamela Hicks, Grace kept a “cut out photograph of him” as a schoolgirl. After marrying Prince Rainier, Grace got to know Lord Mountbatten through their royal social circle.

Louis Mountbatten, or ‘Uncle Dickie’ as he was affectionately called, was Prince Philip’s uncle and a mentor to Prince Charles. It’s thought that Prince William named his son Louis in tribute to the late Lord Mountbatten.

Lord Mountbatten was killed at age 79 in a terrorist attack by the Irish Republican Army on August 27, 1979.
