Sam Stosur Hits Back At Margaret Court Following Her Public Opposition To Same-Sex Marriage

Margaret Court appeared on The Project on Friday night where she defended saying she will stop flying Qantas Airlines โ€œwhere possibleโ€ after the airlineโ€™s promotion of same-sex marriage came out.

โ€œI believe in marriage as a union between a man and a woman as stated in the Bible,โ€ Ms Court wrote in the original letter published in The West Australian.

โ€œYour Qantas statement leaves me no option but to use other airlines where possible for my extensive travelling.โ€

The letter also talked about tennis player Casey Dellacqua โ€“ who has two children with her same-sex partner Amanda Judd โ€“ saying that children born into female same-sex couples will always have questions surrounding their โ€œidentity and background.โ€

Dellacqua responded by posting a photo of the article to Twitter, writing, โ€œMargaret. Enough is enough.โ€

Sam Stosur then reposted Caseyโ€™s tweet, writing, โ€œProud of you Case x.โ€

โ€œLook, I think everyone can have their own opinion. I donโ€™t agree with Margaretโ€™s opinion,โ€ Stosur said at the French Open in Paris, as reported by ABC

โ€œThatโ€™s why Casey was, obviously, very adamant about that and I wanted to support my friend and thatโ€™s why I sent out my first tweet in a very long time.โ€

โ€œAnd, look, itโ€™s just not something that I agree with. I think we definitely should have it (same-sex marriage) in Australia.โ€

Stosur went on to say she didnโ€™t think Margaret Court Arena would be renamed, but that players may choose to avoid it during the Australian Open.

โ€œThe courtโ€™s named Margaret Court Arena because of what she did in tennis, and thatโ€™s why basically. But I guess weโ€™ll cross that bridge when we all get down to the Australian Open next year and (see) who wants to play on Margaret Court Arena and who doesnโ€™t, and weโ€™ll go from there.โ€
